Summer concert series comes to Dundee Park - By Michelle Libby

This summer Dundee Park in Windham will be rocking four Wednesday nights with entertainment acts that will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Brought to the community by The Windham Parks and Recreation Department and the Windham Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

“People are really excited about this, that it’s Dundee. They can come have a swim before the concert,” said parks and rec director Linda Brooks.

The park will open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday nights beginning July 13 and continuing until August 3. Families are invited to come bring food to cook on the provided grills, swim and enjoy and evening at the river’s edge.

The acts are Wednesday, July 13, The Hurricanes, a party rock band from Portland. On July 20, Jimmy Junkins and The Big Fat Cadillac will play original boogie woogie dancehall rock n’ rollin’ twang with a few covers. On July 27, Douglas Elder will perform original music. This frontman for “The Wrecking” will do some eclectic covers in storyteller style as well as the originals. The final performance on August 3 will be childhood favorite Rick Charette, who will delight children of all ages. Charette’s concert will go until 7:20 p.m., but he will remain around to sign autographs and take photos.

There will be make-up dates in case of inclement weather, August 10 and 17.

“I inherited the idea,” said Brooks. “It had been addressed in the budget.” The original plan was to do the concerts at the new village green at the Windham Historical Society, but they weren’t ready to do hold the concerts this season, she added.

Dundee Park is getting an upgrade to the electrical service to work with the sound equipment. The bands will most likely be under the pavilion.

Organizations will be offering concessions for the concerts. They are still looking to fill at least three nights.

“It’s really going to be fun for all ages. For some it might be the first time they ever find us.”
Brooks said she already has acts reserved for next year.

This is a great way to check out all Dundee Park has to offer without having to purchase a park pass.
