On
Thursday, April 25, the Sebago Lake Rotary Club awarded a $500 cash prize to David
Douglas, the winner of its 2019 Ice Out contest. Douglas and one other
contestant, Wayne Roma of East Baldwin, both correctly guessed April 18 as
Sebago Lake’s Ice-Out date as determined by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF).
Per contest rules, the two names were placed into a hat and the winning entry
drawn. The total cash prize for this, the contest’s first year, was $500. Upon
awarding the prize to Mr. Douglas, he generously donated $250, one half the
total prize, to the Rotary Club. The Club plans to run the contest again next year
and is hopeful it will generate a larger cash prize.
