RAYMOND – Republican Karen Lockwood of Raymond has announced that she is running for the Maine House of Representatives in District 86 which includes Casco, Raymond, Frye Island, and part of Poland.

Lockwood brings a wealth of experience to the race, especially at the community level.
“Real world experience, common sense, collaboration and civility are in short supply these days,” said Lockwood. “I hope to bring my experience in municipal government and community work, along with my practical life experience as an employee, a skilled trades worker, an involved community member and as a mother to Augusta. I am very concerned with what has happened to Maine and will work with anyone that has a good idea to move our state forward. I will be connecting with area residents between now and November to establish relationships that will help inform future legislative decisions. Working together, we can get Maine back on track, to be the place we want it to be.”

Lockwood worked for nearly 40 years at Bath Iron Works, where she started as a shipfitter in 1978. On her second day on the job, she was sent to welding school and was one of only about a dozen women working in the manufacturing division at the shipyard at that time.

She then worked as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of the Supply Chain Management and Quality and retired in June 2020. During a break from her employment at BIW, Lockwood worked in the Maine House of Representatives as a transcriptionist, recording and transcribing the deliberations on the floor of the House.

In addition to her career at Bath Iron Works, Lockwood is also a chef, having earned her degree in Culinary Arts from Southern Maine Community College. She earned this degree concurrently with a degree in Hospitality Management in 2013. She has worked as the Chef at the Pilgrim Lodge camp, as well as served as a co-dean with her husband for the week dedicated to high school students.

Lockwood’s community involvement also includes serving on the Raymond Budget-Finance Committee, a position to which she was elected in June 2019, and the Raymond Recycling Committee.

A resident of Raymond for 22 years, Lockwood lives in the town with her husband, Pete, who was also an employee of Bath Iron Works and retired in June 2020. Lockwood previously was a candidate for the Maine State Senate District 26 seat in the 2020 election. <
