If you’re looking for family friendly
fun this weekend then make sure to visit Cheers to a Cure on August 1 from 1
p.m. to 4 p.m. This year starts the first annual beer and wine tasting to
benefit the American Cancer Society. Activities include numerous raffles, a DJ, a
barbeque, and there will be plenty of beer and wine from local pubs. There will
also be juice tasting and a bounce house for the kids.
The event is organized by Emily
Wainwright who was a chairperson for Relay for Life. When the group moved to
Gray, she chose to start her own event so there would still be a presence in
Windham. She hopes that this event will help feed into this fall’s Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Portland.
Tickets to Cheers to a Cure are $20 (all
inclusive) or $10 (per tailgate buffet) and can be purchased at the event or
through the event website. The event is located on Commons Avenue, Windham in
the Metayer Family Eye Care parking lot across from Domino’s. For more
information visit the Cheers to a Cure Facebook page or visit
www.cheerstoacure.org and don’t forget to stop by on Saturday!
For those who cannot attend this year
but wish to help the cause, there are plenty of other ways to get involved. At
the Cheers to a Cure website there are T-shirts for sale and links for
donations, both of which benefit the American Cancer Society. Mark your calendars for the Making Strides
Against Breast Cancer walk on October 18 and don’t forget about Cheers to a
Cure next summer as well!
