The Windham Police Department has honored Officer Justin Hudnor as employee of the quarter.

Hudnor is a Field Training Officer for the police and in addition to patrol duties, he also serves as a fill-in at Windham High School as a School Resource Officer.

He joined the Windham Police Department in 2014 after a year working as a corrections officer and he graduated after completing 18 weeks of studies at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Born and raised in Brunswick, Hudnor earned a degree from Thomas College in Waterville.

He told The Windham Eagle upon being sworn in as a police officer in 2014 that he didn’t really know what to expect when he was hired here.

“I’d never been to Windham, only driven through,” he said.

A friend told him about the opening at the Windham Police Department and he applied for the position.

“He said it was like a big family,” Hudnor said. “It sounded like something I want to be a part of.”

In being chosen as the recipient of the employee of the quarter award, Hudnor is recognized by his peers and throughout the community as an officer who can build rapport and interact well with all facets of the community.

Windham Police Sgt. Jim Cook nominated Officer Hudnor for this distinction after watching him interact with a family during a particularly tragic event.

"Justin’s compassion and effort during that time with a family suffering a devastating loss I believe will leave lasting positive memories of the department with them,” Cook wrote in his nomination letter. “Knowing Justin, I’m sure he wasn’t thinking about leaving a positive memory of the department with these people, to him they were people hurting and he did what he could to help."

Hudnor is a former Eagle Scout and is married to his wife, Lindsay. <
