Dr. Richard Nickerson was honored on Thursday June 1 at the Windham High
School (WHS) Performing Arts Center as a 2017 Music Educator Award™ finalist.
Nickerson is a music instructor at WHS and was honored by The Recording
Academy® and the GRAMMY Museum®. Andrew Bogert, District Sales Manager for
Journeys; Wally Camp Jr., President/General Manager of Rowe Ford Auburn; Jared
Cassedy, 2015 Music Educator Award Winner, and Director of K-12 Performing
Arts, Salem School District; Brian Linhares, District Sales Manager for
Journeys; will present Nickerson with a $1,000 Honorarium and Windham High
School will be presented with a matching $1,000 Grant.
A joint partnership and presentation of The Recording Academy and the
GRAMMY Museum, the Music Educator Award was established to recognize current
educators (kindergarten through college, public, and private schools) who have
made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and
who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education
in schools. The award is open to current U.S. music teachers, and anyone can
nominate a teacher - students, parents, friends, colleagues, community members,
school deans, and administrators. Teachers are also able to nominate
themselves, and nominated teachers are notified and invited to fill out an
application.
Each year, one recipient is selected from 10 finalists and recognized for
their remarkable impact on students' lives. The recipient is recognized during
GRAMMY® Week, attends the GRAMMY Awards® ceremony and a range of other GRAMMY
Week events, and receives a $10,000 Honorarium. In addition, the nine finalists
each receive a $1,000 Honorarium and the schools of all 10 finalists receive
matching Grants.
