Two candidates were interviewed to fill the at-large position on the Windham
Town Council and during a meeting on May 25, councilors voted to appoint Ed
Ohmott for the seat.
Ohmott, 64, lives on Bowdens Way in Windham and
previously served on Windham’s Smith Cemetery Committee and Long-Range Planning
Committee. He will replace David Douglass, who resigned in April because he was
moving and no longer had enough time to devote to the council position.
The other candidate whose name was put in
nomination for the position was Kevin Kimball, but Ohmott received five votes
from the council and received the appointment.
The term for Ohmott on the town council will expire
in November at which time Windham voters will elect a permanent councilor for a
three-year term for the at-large position.
Town councilors attend all regular and special
council meetings; vote on appointments for town officials and committee
members; approve, amend or reject town ordinances and regulations; review and
approve or amend the annual town budget proposal; vote on legislative issues
coming before the town regarding financial matters, zoning or planning,
borrowing, debt or other proposals in the interest of Windham residents.
After appointing Ohmott to the at-large position,
councilors also appointed him for a seat on the town’s Marijuana License Fee
Committee.
Ohmott is the former president of Champion Cordage, an industrial supplies and equipment firm in California. <
