On May 3, 2013, The University of Maine will sponsor a Windstorm Challenge Competition for middle and high school students. The students are required to design and construct a floating platform for a scale model turbine, and deliver a business plan and sales pitch to a panel of judges.The Windstorm Challenge aims to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary opportunity that allows students to explore the concepts of deep water wind energy technology and its role in Maine‚s future.
The students have gained insight into wind technology by recently visiting a leading edge company, Pika-Energy, in Gorham, Maine.
