Sen. Diamond welcomes Senate Pages to State House

AUGUSTA — Students from Standish Baptist Academy served as an Honorary Pages in the Maine Senate on April 5 as the guests of Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Windham and Sen. Garrett Mason, R-Lisbon. The Academy is in Sen. Diamond’s district, and Wilda Rose Lewis, an instructor at the school, was Sen. Mason’s third grade teacher. All are pictured below. Sen. Diamond extends invitations to honor roll students from the area’s middle and high schools as a way to recognize their strong academic performance and foster an interest in civics.

The students who served as pages are: Hannah Clark, Leila Fisenko, Elizabeth Fomichenko, Rosemary Geraghty, Lev Guirel, Fillip Popov, Leah Sherstyukov, and Enessa Zhdanov.

The Honorary Page Program gives students an opportunity to participate in the Senate and interact with legislators. Honorary Pages see what it is like to work on the floor of the Senate and be part of a legislative session. Pages perform such duties as delivering messages to senators and distributing amendments and supplements in the chamber. Students from third grade through high school are invited to serve in the Senate Chamber as Honorary Pages when the Senate is in session; however, the Legislature is due to adjourn in mid-April and all slots are currently filled. For more information or to schedule a visit next year call Sen. Diamond at (207) 287-1515.
