Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Affairs announces Veteran Service Officer is back to help local Veterans

After a hiatus of eight months, the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Affairs has installed a new Veteran Service Officer for the Southern Maine Area, Jonathan “Jon” Connor.

Connor’s office is located in Portland but he will be available to travel and visit Veterans throughout York and Cumberland Counties, including the Windham Veterans’ Center.

http://www.downeastsharpening.com/Connor joined Maine Veterans’ Services as a Veteran Service Officer (VSO) in August of 2017. He is a native of Lewiston where he attended Lewiston High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. As an Air Transportation Specialist, his service has taken him from Italy, Honduras, South Korea and Alaska to California, Montana and South Carolina.

He has spent deployment time in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Oman and Kyrgyzstan, in addition to
numerous contingency operations, both abroad and stateside.

In 2014, Connor retired from the Air Force in Alaska and pursued a second career in real estate. However, the call to return to Maine was loud. Connor and his family returned to Lewiston in 2016 where he sought a career in which he could return to his calling - helping people and Veterans in particular.

Connor will hold office hours at the Windham Veterans’ Center in North Windham (behind Hannaford’s) on the second Wednesday of each month, with hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment as needed. His office hours in Windham will be held every second Wednesday of the month beginning Wednesday, November 8 and will coincide with the Legion’s Vet Coffee that occurs every Wednesday morning. All Veterans are welcome for coffee.

Connor looks forward to meeting and helping as many Maine Veterans as he possibly can, including homebound Veterans by appointment. To contact Connor, call 207 441-3078 or email at Jonathan.m.Connor@maine.org.
