On Sunday, September 22,
parishioners at St. Ann’s in Windham celebrated 40 years as a congregation. The
church began worshiping together in 1971, and in 1973 were received as a
mission into the Diocese of Maine. The first service was held on November 30,
1974 in the church at the corner of Windham Center Road and River Road.
In 2006, St. Ann’s hired
Rector, Rev. Tim Higgins as its first full-time rector.
"It is with gratitude to God that St. Ann's
celebrates its 40th anniversary as a Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Maine.
With our eyes 'fixed on Jesus' we look forward to many more years of serving
the communities in the lakes region," Higgins told the group.
St. Ann’s supports 40 activities and committees
including the “ladybug” playground in memory of 10-year-old Kelli Jane
Hutchison and instructing 100 children in the Sunday school program.
St. Ann’s is growing again and launching a new
capital campaign.
"It
is in that context that we publically announce a $500,000 capital campaign
which will allow us to address some infrastructure needs as well as significant
growth--thanks be and glory to God," said Higgins.
